We are building a circular economy connector for hospitality — using advanced technology to reduce waste, rebuild financial trust, and prove that independent operators are sustainable, investable, future-ready businesses.
We dream of a hospitality ecosystem where restaurants, bakeries, and food businesses are seen as sustainable, investable, and data-driven businesses — not risky passion projects that inevitably fail.
In a future world saturated by sterile, automated food pods, a deeply human, narrative-driven brand commands premium pricing and fierce customer loyalty. The emotional moat is the competitive advantage. Technology doesn't replace Chef Marc's food or the cultural storytelling — it protects it by erasing every friction point behind the scenes.
"We are architecting a circular hospitality network: technology that keeps resources, knowledge, and capital flowing efficiently — instead of being wasted."
This is our vision: a circular economy connector for hospitality — linking operators, suppliers, capital partners, and communities through shared data, best practices, and a back-office that actually works for small businesses.
Agentic workflows that handle the back office so operators focus on food, people, and vision — not midnight spreadsheets.
Menus, supply networks, and operations built to be hyper-seasonal, low-waste, and adaptive to climate and farming realities.
Transparent data that lets operators be seen as credible, future-ready investments — not financial risks to be avoided.
Instead of building in a vacuum, we start with 100 structured one-on-one sessions with small operators in the Greater Toronto Area — mapping the exact administrative bottlenecks, SaaS fatigue, and operational friction points that independent food businesses face every day.
This data directly programs the architecture of our platform and API. We aren't guessing what the market needs. We are building the system operators tell us they wish they'd had.
Each session also tracks the hidden costs of food waste and supply chain volatility — proving mathematically that sustainable operations improve margins and lower risk. This directly challenges the negative perception of restaurants as financially fragile and environmentally harmful.
"We aren't guessing what the market needs. We have vetted the operational vulnerabilities of 100 small business operators. Our financial models are built on hard, localized data sprints that prove exactly where margins leak — and how our system plugs them."
A short structured intake on stage, industry, and your biggest friction point. 5 minutes.
Live session with Mariel, structured around the Islas operator-diagnostic framework.
Concrete prioritised action plan, sequenced for your specific situation. Delivered same session.
With consent, anonymised insights structure the Islas AI training corpus — building the proprietary Operator Logic dataset that no competitor can replicate.
Structured decision-making patterns from 100 real operators — the proprietary AI training corpus that powers the platform.
Tracking hidden costs of food waste and supply chain volatility to show that circular operations mathematically improve margins.
Hard, localised data that mitigates the #1 reason investors fear hospitality: unpredictable operational bleeding.
Restaurants, bakeries, cafés, pop-ups, food trucks, and food CPG all welcome.
Our goal is to open up back-office intelligence that's usually reserved for large groups — without asking small operators to become full-time systems architects. When we deploy the first product, it serves a dual purpose: a profitable operation and the ultimate testing ground for the operating system.
Invoices reconciled autonomously. Labour scheduling optimised by predictive foot-traffic algorithms. The "invisible co-founder" tasks handled — so you don't have to.
Leases, licences, payroll cycles, permit renewals, loan payments — visible on one schedule, ahead of time. Sleep without compliance dread.
Every ingredient traced from soil to plate. Food waste monitored in real time, feeding data back into the menu pricing engine for absolute efficiency.
Linking operators with suppliers, recovery partners, and capital providers who care about both sustainability and financial discipline — not just the lowest cost.
Numbers that can be explained to staff, lenders, and investors in clear human language — not just raw reports. Compress prime cost. Prove superior EBITDA margins.
Simple, opinionated flows that reflect how hospitality businesses actually operate — not generic enterprise software adapted downward.
We are in active discovery and prototyping. Features and timelines will evolve based on what we learn from the operator sprint. The operators in Cohort 1 shape the product from day one — their lived experience is the blueprint, not our assumptions.
When we expand to multiple locations or license the concept, we move from scaling a physical footprint to scaling a decentralised ecosystem. The automated back-office architecture that powered the first location duplicates seamlessly across 10, 50, or 100 units — or licenses to other SMB operators.
By pooling data across multiple nodes, we can negotiate directly with sustainable agricultural cooperatives, securing price stability and ensuring a circular, low-carbon supply chain that strengthens with every operator who joins.
Starting with Canadian small business operators, then expanding to the Philippines diaspora — and then every market where immigrant small business operators build. Every market where the invisible co-founder is missing is a market for Islas Tech.
You are no longer a risky hospitality play with high linear costs. You are a tech-enabled platform with compounding returns. Every new unit opened has a guaranteed, rapid path to profitability — because the back-office infrastructure scales at near-zero marginal cost. This is where institutional capital, commercial banking lines, and venture investment become possible.
One-on-one sessions. Building the proprietary Operator Logic dataset. Proving product-market fit.
Dataset assembled. Back-office MVP moves from prototype to first deployable version. Founding operators migrate from Sprint to product.
Cohort insights integrated. Back-office operating system deployed to early Canadian SME customers.
Canadian SMEs → Philippines diaspora → every market where small business operators build without the support they deserve.
Agentic workflows, shared benchmarks, integrations with the tools operators already use.
Anonymised operator data → industry-wide best practices and shared supply chain leverage.
The model that unlocks commercial banking lines, venture investment, and franchise-grade credibility for independent operators.
My name is Mariel Buenaventura. For eight years I co-ran iSLAS Filipino BBQ & Bar in Toronto with my husband and chef, Marc — starting at 1690 Queen Street West in December 2017. On the surface, we were known for memorable experiences, community events, and creative food. Behind the scenes, I was drowning in scattered systems, surprise obligations, and financial anxiety.
I have a finance background — SAP FI/CO at Accenture, accounting at Daniels, finance at Scotiabank. And I was still drowning. Which means the problem is not operator incompetence. The problem is systemic fragmentation. Capital does not fix this. Foundation does.
Islas Tech is our attempt to turn that painful experience — and the loss of Marc's father Ernie, who was foundational to our Canadian journey — into something lasting: a system that gives operators an invisible co-founder instead of another dashboard to feel guilty about.
A structured 30-minute diagnostic with Mariel. You walk in drowning. You walk out with clarity — a real plan for your real numbers, your real systems, your real next 90 days.
And your session helps build the back-office operating system every operator who comes after you will rely on.
